Loading your motorcycle safely – what you should know
These tips help you transport your motorcycle safely
- Roll the motorcycle into the front-wheel chock and make sure it stands in the middle
- Attach the tie-down straps symmetrically to the frame on the left and right
- Do not engage the steering lock – the handlebars must stay fixable slightly turned
- Check the tow ball and the breakaway cable before you set off
- For longer motorway trips (e.g. towards the Eifel), check the straps again after 100 km
At a glance
Mainz lies where the Main flows into the Rhine and is a good starting point for motorcyclists heading into four worthwhile regions: Rhenish Hesse to the south, the Nahe valley to the west, the Hunsrück beyond it and the Middle Rhine valley to the north. Via the A60, A63 and A61 you are quickly out of the city and on the winding country roads you are really here for.
We rent out a tilting motorcycle trailer that lets you load your bike without a second person. The rear of the trailer tilts backwards and forms a flat ramp; the permanently fitted front-wheel chock catches the front wheel and holds it upright while you strap it down. The trailer weighs 250 kg empty and carries a payload of up to 500 kg, so practically any road motorcycle. With a suitable tow vehicle it is fit for Tempo 100, third-party liability insurance is included, and we do not ask for a deposit.
This overview shows you where to go from Mainz and the surrounding area and what a trailer is worth it for – from a weekend trip into wine country to a workshop run. The nearest pickup point is in Mainz-Hechtsheim; you will find the actual pickup with parking spot and price on the booking page. You can hire the trailer by the day or for a whole tour; you book online, pick up contact-free around the clock, and the rest is up to you.

Frequently asked questions about Mainz
From Mainz you reach Rhenish Hesse with its wine roads, the Nahe valley via Bad Kreuznach, the Hunsrück with its ridge roads and the Middle Rhine valley with the Loreley. Via the A61 the Eifel and the Moselle are within reach too. The trailer takes your motorcycle to the start of the tour, so you cut the motorway approach short in comfort.
The nearest pickup point is in Mainz-Hechtsheim. You get the exact parking spot with coordinates by email at 00:00 on the 1st rental day, and the code for the hitch lock by email and text message after sending the pickup form. Pickup is possible contact-free 24/7 – no appointment and no waiting. You will find the actual process and availability on the booking page.
The trailer costs €35 per day incl. VAT, three days come to €94.50 and a week to around €201. Included are a €0 deposit, 300 km per day and third-party liability insurance. Optionally you can add damage protection (CDW) with an excess of €50. For longer tours into the Nahe valley or the Hunsrück, the included kilometres are usually comfortably enough.
Our trailer tilts, it does not lower. The rear tilts backwards mechanically and forms a flat ramp up which you push the motorcycle. Hydraulically lowering trailers, where the whole loading area lies down on the ground, are a different and more expensive design. For loading on your own, the tilting function together with the front-wheel chock is entirely enough.
The front-wheel chock is permanently built into the trailer and holds the front wheel. You should bring your own tie-down straps with ratchets to tie the motorcycle down to the front and to the sides. Everything else is on the trailer.
Yes. If your motorcycle should not ride itself after a fault or before a sale, you take it on the trailer to the workshop or the dealer around Mainz and back again. With the short day rental and the €0 deposit, that is manageable for a single trip too, and the front-wheel chock keeps the bike standing securely during transport.
